SLOT 1: Noon - 6:00 PM

Dead Man’s Party

GM Name: Chris Lightfoot

Contact E-Mail: crlightfoot[at]gmail.com

Game Slot: Slot 1

Minimum / Maximum Number of Players: 3-6

Outside Game? No

Game Genre: Horror, Humor, Adventure

Game System: Persona

Persona is a just-in-time role-playing game, meaning you spend character points right where you need them right when you need them! No hassle with writing up a character before hand or having that expensive skill never get used.

Teen Friendly? No

Game Description:

You only know two things: 1) You just woke up. 2) You're dead. Yep, your ticket has been punched. To add insult to injury, you have no idea who you were while you were alive. So now, suffering from a severe case of amnesia and a fatal dose of being dead, what next? Perhaps learning how you got here - and who these other deadheads are - will provide some help. If you're not already beyond help...

Game is set present-day in Las Vegas, Nevada. The supernatural is real but very few know about it. (Think Buffy the Vampire Slayer or the Sookie Stackhouse novels.)

Character Instructions:

Come to the game with your character's general physical description (age, gender, race, etc.) and manner of death from foul play: shot, stabbed, car wreck, etc. You can also choose something that isn't obviously murder - like poisoning - but somebody did you all in. Try not to choose something that would make interacting with humans too difficult: like decapitation, for example.

You’ll start as a blank slate, and be able to buy skills that you’re remembering from your life as well as zombie-type powers. As you spend points during the game, your character’s memories will return. This will give you some opportunities to affect narrative control!

Omenous

GM Name: Drew Wood

Contact E-Mail: xexorg[at]gmail.com

Game Slot: Slot 1

Minimum / Maximum Number of Players: 3-8

Outside Game? Maybe.

Game Genre: Mystery, Noir, Adventure, Episodic, Alternate History, Kitchen Sink.

Game System: Diceless

Teen Friendly? Can be if teens sign up. I try to edit to R or less, and audience makes a difference.

Game Description / Character Instructions:

Characters will be members of a Special Branch of the American Royal Ministry of Science, working to find and minimize threats to the Crown, People, and Welfare of America. The Game is set in an alternate World, just after the Second World War.

The Setting

The Omenous Game is set in a place both familiar and not. Fantastic and very real.

Magic and the supernatural are a part of life, as common as fraternal orders, bowling leagues, or cigarette cases. The creatures of myth and legend walk the streets and halls of government. Many do so secretly, but it is the secret of membership in those same fraternal orders, the secret of the town drunk, the secret of what goes on in stag parties. However, Noble Houses of the Old World have the blood of the Sidhe in their veins; Gypsy women with crystal balls are consulted, and the shamans of the Tribes can still make the White Man know fear.

Life is returning to normal, the Second War is over and the forces of Light, Truth, and Freedom won. The Dark Empires have been pushed back or broken. Peace is returning, life is looking up. Cars once again are being made in the factories of Detroit. Everywhere America is looking up and feeling fine.

This is a world of fine automobiles, weekend Matinees, cocktail parties and country clubs. Private Detectives, Mafia Dons and Rock Stars make the news and are the news. Television and Computers are in their infancy. The Moon is still unreachable. Telephones are heavy and connected by wires. Operators connect switches to place your calls. Fingerprints and rubber hoses are used equally by the cops. Sodas usually come from fountains and very seldom from cans. Air Travel is still by propeller planes. Plastic Surgery can change an identity. The Atomic Bomb is the most destructive thing known to man. Credit Cards are used almost exclusively by Traveling Salesmen.

Characters are built with a short questionaire available after sign up.

The Serpent Underneath

GM Name: Carrie Varley and Casey de Groof

Contact E-Mail: ctdegroof[at]yahoo.com, cfvarley[at]gmail.com

Game Slot: Slot 1

Minimum / Maximum Number of Players: 4-6 (Note: Cindy Henderson will be playing NPC- not to be included in the count smile

Outside Game? Maybe

Game Genre: Mystery - Traditional Amber

Game System: Amber

Teen Friendly? No

Game Description:

It is the twentieth Chaosian year of the reign of his Majesty, King Flynn, who ascended the throne following the still unexplained abdication of King Merlin. King Flynn, determined to make Chaos stronger, offered each of the twelve major Houses of Chaos an opportunity to send one or two of their children for formal study at the Palace. During this twelve-year course of study, each student learned skills of diplomacy and management, useful for their Houses, for Chaos, and especially for those few students who might be chosen to represent Chaos in ambassadorial duties. All Houses were eager and honored to send their best and brightest, as it was obvious that having someone close to the King would be beneficial for the House.

Just as the first of the Scholars graduated from the Program, rumors of Logrus troubles circulated about the cafes and parlors of Chaos. Flynn’s Scholars were called to a secret, undisclosed location for a private audience with King Flynn. He charged them with investigating this disturbance.

Setting: The game takes place in Chaos, post-Patternfall War, and following the relatively short reign of King Merlin. There are about a dozen major Houses of Chaos with varying agendas and power levels; some will be familiar, some will not. Players will have the opportunity to chose a House from which to hail, design their character and jump right in to trouble.

Character Instructions:

As much as possible, we would like to have characters created by July 13, so that we finish plot details in time to start the game without too much ado. You’ll have 125 points with which to create your character, and we will give you a list of Houses from which to choose. We’d like to have no more than two characters from any given House, so we’ll be asking for the top three choices, just in case. And we WILL be using good/bad stuff. The really, truly brave people have the option of letting the GMs create your character and chose your House (insert evil laugh and hand wringing here).

Players Should Contact GM(s) before Game Day? Yes. Via email, however we will contact you after we receive the names of the players. We'll send character instructions along with the House descriptions. We're also happy to answer general questions about our setting to help you create characters and choose a House.

Amber Noir

GM Name: Kath Nyborg

Contact E-Mail: kath[dot]nyborg[at]gmail[dot]com

Game Slot: Slot 2

Minimum / Maximum Number of Players: 4-5

Outside Game? Maybe

Game Genre: Noir

Game System: Diceless RPGing. Amber Xtra-Lite

Teen Friendly? As teen-friendly as these games ever are.

Game Description:

It is the midnight of Amber's soul. Dark hearts, dark deeds, dark thoughts, dark dreams fill the city. Corruption, greed, betrayal, murder, suicide … the stuff crammed into each waking heartbeat, each nighttime terror; it's always there, like an icy hand at your throat ready to drag you down. Something's rotten in the city of Amber. So what else is new? The war in Chaos is over, but some say the real war is at home. The question is what are you going to do about it?

You're in a city that never really was, an Amber more aligned with the shadow-Earth post-WWII era than anything remotely courtly or noble. Technology is a burgeoning trade, and magic is on the decline. It's not enough that the city's leadership is divided--the Family has never been able to agree on anything--but now the Spooks (aka Chaosians) are swarming. Rumor is that something bad has happened in Chaos. Its denizens are fleeing like rats jumping a sinking ship, and Amber is the next major port of call. High mucky-mucks from the Courts have set up shop in the darker sections of town … the areas where the cops walk a nervous beat and "nice" people never set foot. Eric, the Mayor of the city, who saw the city safely through Pattern Fall, is newly dead, leaving a vacuum of power and a lot of unanswered questions. Tomorrow's his funeral. You're going, of course.

Character Instructions:

You are a member of the working class, a normal Amber City joe. As such, your main assets are your brains and your determination to get to the bottom of a case. The City Police Department, run by Gerard (aka, the Captain), has been kept hopping, as has the Coroner's Office (Fiona's territory). One of these two Elders is your boss.

Contact the GM for a quick and dirty questionnaire that will be your character creation.

Players Should Contact GM(s) before Game Day? Yes, absolutely.

Being super is a bad way to grow up

GM Name: Ogre

Contact E-Mail: ogremarco[at]hotmail.com

Minimum / Maximum Number of Players: 4-6

Outside Game? Maybe

Game Genre: superheroes, teenagers, dice, playtest

Game System: Powersurge. (I wrote it)

Teen Friendly? Yes

Game Description:

This is a game about teenage supers and the stress it puts on them, there's punchy shooty violence and angsty relationship stuff. Think early Joss Whedon.

Character Instructions:

I'll have premade characters to select from, so no worries at all. I'll also have all the dice and materials and such.

Cliché Amber

GM Name: Todd E. Worrell

Contact E-Mail: bluemonsta[at]gmail.com

Game Slot: Slot 2

Minimum / Maximum Number of Players: 4-6

Outside Game? No

Game Genre: Classic Amber Diceless Universe, post-Corwin Chronicles

Game System: ADRPG, rather free-form. No points.

Teen Friendly? Yes, but please see * below.

Game Description:

We will attempt to include every well-known Amber cliché in the game: Certain people will return from certain death; the Pattern(s) will freak out; the Mulitiverse will be threatened; etc. Every perennial plot point will be plumbed.

The game will be a tongue-in-cheek romp through the multiverse. There will be many problems and a limited time in which to resolve or encourage them. There is no set ending, so come prepared to game on a high wire without a safety net.

Character Instructions:

Players will have a choice between Amber stereotypes—one each--chosen at the start of the game.

  • Big Head Patternmaster
  • Big Head Trumpist
  • Big Head Sorcery/Conjuration/Power Words User
  • Warfare God/Goddess
  • Exalted Shapeshifterer
  • Big Head Logrus Guru
  • Strongest PC in the Multiverse
  • Other - Email Todd suggestions if you feel strongly enough that a prototypical PC type has been omitted.

Other flavors may be added in with the consensus of the group: Good Stuff Halo, Bad Stuff Raincloud, Corwin’s Pattern Imprint, Spooky Tir Stuff, Secret Identity, Heir to the Throne, Worthless Rebman Flavor, and possibly An Idea from the Merlin Chronicles. *If you haven’t read the Corwin Chronicles or can’t claim to be more than a little familiar with the “Standard” Amber Tropes, you probably shouldn’t play this game.

Players Should Contact GM(s) before Game Day? Not really—unless you want to email Todd some Amber clichés or tropes that have been done to death already (so they can be included, of course).

Fast Times at Hogwarts High: Pretty in Green

GM Name: Dawn Vogel

Game Slot: Slot 2

Minimum / Maximum Number of Players: 3-6

Outside Game? No

Game Genre: Harry Potter 'verse

Game System: Best Friends

Teen Friendly? Yes-ish. The players play teens, but the games in the past have been a little teen unfriendly.

Game Description:

The Winter Formal is fast approaching, and you and your BFFs are without dates. But the number of eligible boys is dwindling, and if you don't act quickly, you might be left without a date! Then again, you could always go with a non-Slytherin boy...

Character Instructions:

Characters are female students at Hogwarts in 1984. For this game, all of the characters will be Slytherin. Characters in the Best Friends system are created by what the other players think of your character's NAME. So all you need to do coming in to this game is be ready with your most 80s-tastic girl's name! (You can also decide if you want to be wizard born, mudblood, or Muggle born, but with this being a Slytherin game, most people go with the first.)
