AndiBlija: ...we get to be partners in crime in The Devil King! Long Live King Benedict!

ChrisLightfoot: So, we are going to be goosestepping together? Awesome! I know that Leslie and Ghen Ki are working on a friendship, so it wouldn't hurt to have a buddy among the loyalists. Although Thomas looks a little dour to join Durus on a rollicking orgy through Remulus. You never know, though. smile

BTW, when I read Thomas' write up, I was thinking that maybe he snitched on his own dad...but it's just a hunch. wink

Anyway, we should hang together, so we don't...you know. Heil...I mean, long live the king!

AndiBlija: Yes to goosetepping! Rollicking gladiatorial-style orgies? Hm, have to think about that one. ... You know, (now that I DO think about it) he'd turn down the orgies. Why? He doesn't want to risk having children.

ChrisLightfoot: Somehow, I expected that. But if Thomas is interested in a more subdued night on the town in Amber City, Durus would be up for it. Or if Thomas ever longs for some recognition (he seems like a keep-in-the-shadows type guy) he could do a non-orgy trip to Remulus. Anyone visiting there with Durus would get adoration by association. smile

AndiBlija: I could see Thomas being on good terms with Durus (well, and we are in this until some sort of bitter end).

ChrisLightfoot: Oh, and knowing Ben, there will be a bitter end.

AndiBlija: He's a pretty serious and cold guy, but he would agree with Durus and his merciful side. In front of the elders, he just phrases it differently... (for example, we should spare these lives, so then we don't have to clean up the bodies later). He does follow the King without much hesitation, and he's willing to go and do the Bad Things without question, which may be the difference between the two of them.

ChrisLightfoot: I don't know if Durus questions the bad things…actuallty, the best way to put it, would be he questions himself, but not necessarily the king. What is Benedict's intent by asking Durus to do "X"? If Durus can accomplish the goal while avoiding evil "X", with a superior or alternate plan, then he can present Benedict with success without violating his own honor. Of course, as a military man, General Valens will unhesitatingly do some things that others might see as evil. I told Ben that Durus is probably known as "The Butcher of _________" by people in the resistance. Yes, I'm sure there is a resistance.

AndiBlija: And as to what happened between him & his father... well, Thomas hasn't said anything about it.

ChrisLightfoot: Durus would not pry. Durus was raised to regard relationships with fathers as very important, and personal. He would also totally understand trying to overcome the dishonor of a parent. (In conversation, Durus would eventually reveal that his mother tried to take over a stellar Empire several times, and died in one such attempt mere months after Durus' birth.)
